Job Summary

Responsible for monitoring and control of the University's finances.

Provision of professional advice at all levels on matters relating to financial policies and procedures as they apply to all sectors and functions of the University.

Act as deputy to the Finance Director

Main Duties

q     Overall responsibility for the preparation of accounts, financial forecasts and projections with particular responsibility for developing and managing cash flow and balance sheet forecasts;

q     Supporting and managing the Finance Team, currently 60 staff, including recruitment, training and development.  Line Manager to Financial Controller, Head of Management Accounting and Enterprise Accountant;

q     Ensuring the University's adherence to all relevant statutory and corporate financial requirements together with those of Hefce;

q     Maintenance of the University's Financial Regulations and Procedures, ensuring that there are appropriate systematic internal control procedures in place;

q     Agree the internal audit annual programme with the Internal Auditors;

q     Financial performance of Finance against budget (£2m per annum);

q     Working with subsidiary and related companies, Faculties and individual academics who wish to move into commercial ventures, facilitating the preparation of and evaluating business plans.  In this respect act as the Nominated Officer of Council for related companies;
