Ideally Degree Qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related subject with a minimum of 8 years post]graduate experience. Alternatively HNC or HND with a minimum of 8 years industry experience.

He/She will primarily be involved in the execution of major design and manufacture projects for the offshore oil and gas industry. The equipment is exposed to high internal pressures, low and high temperatures, external (hydrostatic) pressure and hydrocarbons. Generally located on the sea bed in water depths beyond diver depth, the equipment has to be extremely reliable for a design life in excess of 20 years. Typically the equipment weighs in excess of 35T and consists of pressure containing machined block valves surrounded by a fabricated structure with the necessary hydraulic control lines. The equipment has to interface with other associated equipment supplied by third parties.
He/She is responsible for interpreting the relevant Client Specifications and/or Industry Standards into safe working designs. He/She will delegate packages of work for design by juniors and be required to approve the work on completion. He/She will be required to check and/or approve design calculations; ensuring that the relevant Industry Codes and Cameron standards are met. He/She will be required to check and/or approve assembly, test and installation procedures etc.
Knowledge of materials, corrosion, NDE techniques, manufacturing processes and techniques is required. This will assist when he/she is required to disposition non]conformances; as will some degree of practical ehands onf experience. Some appreciation of cost and general business awareness will also be necessary for the design process as projects are quoted mainly on a fixed price basis.
Projects are executed to strict schedules. He/She will manage and be responsible for the engineering schedule; ensuring that the Team issue deliverables to the agreed plan. Direct management of juniors to achieve these goals will be necessary as will the training and development of such individuals.
Some direct liaison with the Client is likely. In some cases, it will be necessary to provide technical support to offshore operations that operate 24/7 all year round.
He/She will report via a Team Leader or Supervisor to an Engineering Manager.
